Seo Update: Google Company Goals leaked out. http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/28/google-company-goals-leaked-out/ Sat, 28 Oct 2006 13:42:08 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/28/google-company-goals-leaked-out/ google.jpgThe Goals fo the biggest web2.0 company has been published on the internet. Google Blogoscoped has the information published on their website. In the info you can see that Google will reduce their harddisk waste, and use more Green Power so it’s better for the invoirement.

Also they say that Google Video has 50% market share, and that Gmail is using 20% of the total communications true the Google network.

Some point from the report:

  • Google wants to have an improved infrastructure to make their engineers more productive. This includes allowing employees to have a universal search tool “containing all public Google information searched on all Google searches.” Google also wants to build 10MW of green power to be on track to be carbon neutral. (They also want to reduce “Borg disk waste” by 50%… hmmm, Borg?)
  • Google wants to be the best in search – no surprise here. To reach that goal, Google wants to have the world’s top AI research laboratory. They are also focusing on getting rid of spam in the top 20 user languages, and increasing the accuracy of information they collect (through measures such as annotation). Another part of improving search is to always launch crucial user interface updates “that people love.”
  • Google wants to push their ad system. E.g. in 2006, one of their aims was to sell $1B of new inventory. Google feels that if they make the world’s inventory available “marketers will come.”
  • Google also wants to push their communities and content. According to the papers Google published, Google Video has 50% of the world’s “online video attention” (a number that’s hard to believe, and especially interesting because Google still ended up buying YouTube). Google also emphasized that a fifth of all communication bandwidth – on Google-owned properties, I suppose – is read through Gmail.
  • Google tries to make sure their tools are running everywhere. In around mid-2006, according to their internal numbers 60 Million Google Packs had been installed, but they still want to increase the deployment… especially for “novice users.”
  • Google is always focusing on innovation. One of their top goals in 2006 thus was to “increase the scale of innovation,” even as the internal headcount grows (a growth which dozens of engineering scouts located around the world ensure).

Seo Update: Google Co-op custom search http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/24/google-co-op-custom-search/ Tue, 24 Oct 2006 15:02:47 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/24/google-co-op-custom-search/ co-op.jpgCo-op has just been set public. With the new service everybody can build a custom search engine. This new service lets you easily add thousands of urls. You can let it search over the sites you choosed, or you can tag sites you like and then they will get a higher position in the results.

Matt Cutts: “That’s really nice, because if your chosen urls talk about a subject, you’ll often get matches from those urls, but if the user types something completely unrelated, you’ll still get web results back. So it’s a true custom search engine, not just an engine restricted to showing matches from some domains.

The related tool Google Marker is also verry handy. You can add the market tool to your Google Toolbar. If you are browsing and find a interesting website, you can simply click the button and the site will be placed in your search engine results.
If you don’t want that Google shows the pages of your competitor, you can exclude them from the results. And you can also make some cash by putting you Adsense account in the Co-op program.

Seo Update: Google grows http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/20/google-grows/ Fri, 20 Oct 2006 11:34:07 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/20/google-grows/ geld.jpgYesterday the third quarter earnings announcement has been released. Other big competitors are heaving a hard time, Google is not! Gross revenue rose 70% and quarterly profit rose 92% of the same period last year. Net income this quarter was $733.4 million compared to $381.2 million in the same quarter last year. That’s $2.36 per share, up from $1.32 per share in the same quarter last year.

According to Nielsen NetRatings  the marketshare has grown to a 50% of the total market. I say, Good job!

Once advise to the people of Google. Stop getting more new products and buying big players, but first improve the things that maked you big!

Seo Update: New Website Optimizer from Google http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/20/new-website-optimizer-from-google/ Fri, 20 Oct 2006 11:00:02 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/20/new-website-optimizer-from-google/ adwords.jpgGoogle has a new tool for their AdWords advertisers to track and analyze traffic to their landing page, with these information they can tune their landingpage so that the ROI must get a boost. Google already has a function in their Google Analytics which called heat map. That’s a tool that says where the hotspots on your site are, and where visitors click on your page. People says that this is a next generation of visitor tracking, and optimizing your conversion.

It’s realy a tool that needs a lot of time to see what works best for your site. You must do a lot of experimenting with your site. Change something then wait for a couple of days and see what the results are from Website Optimizer.

Seo Update: Official Google buys YouTube! http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/09/official-google-buys-youtube/ Mon, 09 Oct 2006 23:45:25 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/09/official-google-buys-youtube/ googleyoutubelogo.jpgSeveral blogs just reported the conformation about the acquisition. On the Google Investors page you can read “This afternoon, we announced that we are acquiring YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock. YouTube will operate independently following the close of the transaction, which is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.“ They both agreed the deal and it most be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. All the staff stays at the company after the acquisition.

This must be a heavy deal for the company’s that are at the sideline. Campany’s like Yahoo, AOL and MySpace must improve theire service to not lose any marketshares.

From the announcement this friday to now is has just been three days. That’s how it goes on the time of the Web2.0 concepts. In the webcast people from Google also said in the webcast, this is one of the best achievements in the last years. To build a company within 1 year period that’s worth $1.65 billion dollar.

Seo Update: Google is shopping for YouTube? http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/06/google-is-shopping-for-youtube/ Fri, 06 Oct 2006 11:16:10 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/06/google-is-shopping-for-youtube/ google_youtube.jpgWe just recieved this rumor. It says that Google is looking to buy YouTube for $1.6 billion.

I was verry suprised by this message. Just because the negative publicity around YouTube is getting bigger every day. I think the lawsuits for copyright issues will not take long. In that way Google is the perfect company to take care of YouTube because they have many experience with copyright issues, and they can pay for possible fines. Apparently Google’s own video service Google Video can’t compete agains YouTube, so in that way it’s a logical move for Google to become a leader in the online video content services.

We will keep you informed in case of updates around this rumor.

UPDATE: We just recieved this message that the latest amount is $2.1 bilion. See also the post of shoemaker “ 10 Reasons Why The Google YouTube Deal Makes Sense“.

UPDATE2: I just read my email and found this message in my inbox. UK’s Sunday Times says the deal with Google is already done. They expect an official announcement this week.

UPDATE3: Techcrunch just says that the acquisition announcement could come tonight.  The NYTimes is now reporting that according to people involved in the talks, Google and YouTube will have separate board meetings today to approve a deal between them and could announce an acquisition after trading ends.

Seo Update: Powerset New Search Engine http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/05/powerset-new-search-engine/ Thu, 05 Oct 2006 18:25:25 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/05/powerset-new-search-engine/ powerset.jpgThe new searchengine called Powerset and they are going to compete with marketleaders like Google. They use a special technique called “natural language” search, or understanding language as it is actually spoken — and that is something that has defied everyone until now, even the Google guys.Take, for example, if you type “Books by Children” into Google’s search box. Google essentially drops the word “by” and looks for all the pages that are relevant to “books” and “children.” That’s because the English language is so idiomatic that no engine has been able to understand meaning within sentences.

Because they don’t have a big budget to spend on the developping costs of the site, there looking for big money to launch their new engine. Venture capitalists are always the best source of rumors (the best time to hit them up for information is right after they’ve passed on a deal, or have lost it to another firm). If they don’t have a financial interest in the company, loose lips abound. With respect to Powerset, the rumors are that the company is trying to raise $10 million on a $20 million pre-money valuation. That’s a lot of money, but if Powerset pulls a Google, no one will care.

Check this and this surce for more detailed info.

Plentyoffish.com receives up to 500 million page views per month and make over $10,000 per day for Markus, who runs the site from home.

2: Kevin Rose: Digg.com - $250,000 per month

Kevin Rose started Digg in December of 2004 with just $1000. Today Digg is one of the biggest news sites on the Net, with over 400,000 members and over 200 million page views per month. According to this article from Business week, Digg will make $3 million this year from a combination of Google AdSense and Federated Media ads.

3: Jeremy Shoemaker - $140,000 per month

Unlike the other Google whores on this list, ShoeMoney, as he likes to be call, does not own just one site. He makes his enormous Google checks using hundreds of sites and thousands of domains.

Before Jason Calacanis sold Weblogs, Inc to AOL for $25 million, he got the network of blogs making over $4,000 a day from Google AdSense. So impressive was his AdSense performance that Google used Weblogs for a case study.

Seo Update: Linkbuilding Tips http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/05/linkbuilding-tips/ Thu, 05 Oct 2006 10:24:17 +0200 http://www.seo-update.com/2006/10/05/linkbuilding-tips/ linkbuilding.jpgToday the most important thing for launching your site and get good traffic from search engines is building quality backlinks. Overall it’s important to get natural backlinks from sites with high pagerank with the same niche, as your site. Don’t buy paid links on high PR sites and think it’s gonna be ok, because Google gets smarter every day and recognized these links.

We asked ‘Does Google consider link selling a type of webspam against Google’s TOS? And if so, should we expect to see some kind of a censure on W3C? Or how does it differ from what Google considers webspam?‘ to Matt Cutts and he said, ‘Google does consider it a violation of our quality guidelines to sell links that affect search engines. If someone wanted to sell links purely for visitors, there are a myriad number of ways to do it that don’t affect search engines. You could have paid links do an internal redirect, and then block that redirecting page in robots.txt. You could add the rel=”nofollow” attribute to a link, which tells search engines that you can’t or don’t want to vouch for the destination of a link. The W3C decided to add a “INDEX, NOFOLLOW” meta tag to their sponsor page, which has the benefits that the sponsor page can show up in search engines and that users receive nice static links that they can click on, but search engines are not affected by the outlinks on that page. All of these approaches are perfectly fine ways to sell links, and are within our quality guidelines.’
Here are some tips:

1. Thou shalt recognize the value of links.

For now, and for the foreseeable future, link building and SEO walk hand-in-hand. Linking profiles are one of Google’s top ranking factors, and the “other” engines use them as well. Once upon a time, you could simply write a lot of keyword-rich content and rank well for it. While that may still be the case with MSN / Live Search, it no longer carries you very far with Yahoo or Google. That’s where links come in.

2. Thou shalt begin link-building on thine own website.

“What is this heresy? Link-building starts on my website? Who ever heard of such a thing?” All too often, I see website owners throw up a new site and go out hunting for links before they have a site worth linking to. Link building always starts on your own website.

Think about it for a moment. Aside from directories and paid listings, few people will link to a bare-bones website that offers nothing unique, helpful or interesting. If you start hunting for links before your website has earned its place on the web, you’re going to have a long, hard time of it.

On the other hand, if you build the kind of website that makes others in your industry or niche say, “Wow, that’s really something! I know some folks who would like that,” then your link-building efforts will be a breeze. It all starts with what you put into your website.

3. Thou shalt alternate link text.

To gain visibility for more of your key phrases, and to make your linking profile seem more natural to search engine algorithms, it’s a good ideas to mix up your link text. For instance, instead of having a thousand backlinks to my site using the phrase “real estate marketing,” I strive to get a broad mix of link text. I shoot for “real estate marketing” and “Realtor marketing” and “real estate SEO” and … you get the picture.
